Given:

A conductor is at T kelvin.

To find:

Find the thermal speed of free electrons of the conductor.

Solution:

The thermal velocity of the electron is given by,

v = √(3kT/m)

The kinetic energy of the electron is given by,

KE = 1/2mv^2

substituting the value of v in the above equation, we get,

KE = 1/2m[√(3kT/m) ]²

KE = 1/2m × (3kT/m)

KE = 3/2 kT

where, a conductor is at T kelvin.

Hence the thermal speed of free electrons of conductor is 3/2 kT
