A cone is placed on a cylinder. The base of the cone
covers exactly the base of the cylinder as shown in the
figure. If the area of the base is 100 cmand the height
of the cylinder is 3 cm and the volume of the whole solid.
is 500 cm. , find the height of the solid thus formed.​

Lets find the radius of cylinder first,

Given the area of base if 100 sq. cm,

πr²= 100

r² = 100/π

r = 10√π

Now find the volume of cylinder,

= πr² h

= π * 100/π* 3

'π' gets cancelled out,

= 300 cm²

Now the height of cone,

1/3π r²h = 500 - 300

1/3 * π* 100/ π * h = 200

'π' is cancelled again,

1/3 * 100h = 200

100h = 600

h = 600/100

h = 6 cm

Total height of the figure,

= 3 + 6

= 9 cm
