A conical tent is made of 4.5m wide tarpaulin. Vertical height of conical tent is 4m and base radius is 3m. Find the length of tarpaulin used, assuming that 10% extra material is required for stitching margins and wastage in cutting (Take 3.14 )

h = 4m

r = 3m

l = root of r sq. + h sq.

l = 5m

csa = 3.14 * 3 * 5

       = 47.10

10 % =  10/100

         =  0.1

          = 47.2

Thank you for asking this question. Here is your answer:

R = 3m

H = 4m

l = √r² + h² = 5m

CSA = πrl = 47.10m²

So the area of extra material would be: (10%) = 10/100 x 47.10

Total Area = 47.10 + 4.71

= 51.81 m²

We already have the breadth, we need to find the length

So we will use the following formula:

Area = L x B

51.81 = L x 4.5 m

L = 11.51 m
