a conical tent is made of 4.5m wide tarpaulin. vertical height of the conical tent is 4m and base radius is 3m. find the length of the tarpaulin used, assuming that 10% extra material is required for stitching margins and wastage in cutting

R = 3m

H = 4m

l = √r² + h² = 5m

CSA = πrl = 47.10m²

So the area of extra material would be: (10%) = 10/100 x 47.10

Total Area = 47.10 + 4.71

= 51.81 m²

We already have the breadth, we need to find the length

So we will use the following formula:

Area = L x B

51.81 = L x 4.5 m

L = 11.51 m
