A constant force of 5 N can produce an acceleration of 1 m/s^2 on the body of mass m1 and 2 m/s^2 on the body of mass m2. If both the masses are tied together and the same force is applied, then what will be the acceleration of the system?

Given:-

•Force(F)=5N

•Ist mass=m1

•2nd mass=m2

•Acceleration of m1(a1)=1m/s²

•Acceleration of m2(a2)=2m/s²

To find:-

•Acceleration of the system when both the mass are tied together i.e m1+m2

Solution:-

For mass m1:-

By Newton's 2nd law of motion,we know that:-

=>F=m1a1

=>m1=F/a1

=>m1=5/1

=>m1=5kg

For mass m2:-

=>F=m2a2

=>m2=F/a2

=>m2=5/2

=>m2=2.5kg

Now,for (m1+m2)

=>F=(m1+m2)a

=>a=F/(m1+m2)

=>a=5/(5+2.5)

=>a=5/7.5

=>a=0.67m/s²

Thus,acceleration of the system when both the masses are tied together is 0.67m/s².
