Step-by-step explanation:

dirt that needs to be removed: 5 1/6 = 31/6 ton

dirt that can be removed in 1 hour = 5/9 ton

Let the number of hours be x

Using unitary method

5/9 × x = 31/6 × 1

=> 5x/9 = 31/6

=> 5x = 31/6 × 9

=> x = 93/2 ÷ 5

=> x = 93/2 × 1/5

=> x = 93/10

93/10 = 9 3/10

it \: will \: take \: 9  \frac{3}{10} hours to \: remove \: the \: dirt.

hope it helped, let me know if there are any mistakes :)))
