A container is filled with half water and rest with air. A cylindrical cork half immersed in water. If air is removed with vaccum pump. What happened with cork and water level. ​

If all the air is removed with a vacuum pump then the cork will float higher in water.

Explanation:

  • in other words it means that the amount of cork that will be immersed in the water will be less as compared to the volume when there was air in the container. This is because there is some pressure which is applied by the air to the cork due to which  it decreases the upthrust due to water.
  • However as the pressure was removed the cork will be merged less and more part of the cork will be above water level
