A container of capacity 20 litres is being filled with water at a rate of 500 cm3 per minute. After 15 minutes, another tap is turned on, draining the tank at a rate of 400 cm3 per minute.
a}Find the volume of the water in the tank after 15 minutes.

b}What is the total time taken to fill the water to the brim?

Total tank capacity =20*1000= 20000 cubic cm.

Therefore after 15 minutes, tank filled = 7500/20000=3/8 tank

b). tank filled in 15 min.= 7500 cubic cm

tank left to be filled = 20000-7500 = 12500 cubic cm.

Tank filled per minute when both taps are open = 500-400 = 100 cubic cm per minute.

Time to fill the remaining tank = 12500/100 = 125 minutes.

There time to fill full tank =15+125 =140 minutes or 2hr 20 minutes.
