a contractor constructs a vertical at a horizontal distance of 300 m from a fixed point it was decided that an angle of elevation of the top of the complete pillar from that point to be 60 degree hi finish the job by making a pillar such that angle of elevation of its top was 30 degree find the height of the pillar to be increased as per the terms of contract

Answer:
(Please refer the attached figure)
Let D be the fixed point, AC be the pillar
Then,CD=100m
AB is the height to be increased
In triangle BCD,
tan45°=BC/DC
1=BC/100m
BC=100m
In triangle ACD,
tan60°=AC/DC
√3=AC/100m
AC=100√3
AC=100×1.73(√3=1.73)
AC=173m
Height to be increased=AB=AC-BC
=173m-100m
=73m (approx.)
Therefore,the pillar has to be increased by 73m to fulfill the conditions of the contract
