A contractor has the target of completing a work in 40 days . He employed 20 persons who completed ( 1/ 4 ) of the work in 10 days and left . The number of persons he has to employ to finish the remaining part as per target is :​

Total work to be done in 40 days. As given to us in the question, 20 persons have completed (1/4)th of the work in 10 days. ∴ Remaining days to complete the work = 40 – 10 = 30 days

Let total work = 1

Work done = 1/4

Work remaining =1-1/4 =3/4

Given 20 men did 1/4 work in 10 days and left (they have done 25% of the total work (1/4 = 25%)

Contractor has 30 days left to finish the remaining 75%(3/4) work. So he needs to hire those number of men who can finish 25 % of work in 10 days which means that he should again hire 20 men to finish the remaining job

Answer is 20
