A contractor is asked to do the work of laying cables that requires 40 men to work for 60 days. They start the work 20 days later, the deadline was advanced by 20 days. How many more men would the contractor have to hire to complete the work on schedule?​

so, remaining work=2/3 work which need to be complete in advanced deadline of 20 days(i.e; total work need to be complete by 40 days and as 20 days already worked, so in remaining 20 days workers will complete 2/3 work)  so, in 20 days they need to complete 2/3 work, which will be done by 80 men=40*(60/20)*(2/3)

Hence 40= (80-40) extra men needed to complete the work on schedule.
