Given  : a contractor promised to build a road 16 km long in 150 days

put 224 men on the job . after 84 days he found that only 7 km of the road was constructed

To Find : how many additional men should be employed to finish the work 3 days earlier

Solution:

Work done by 224 mean in 84 Day

= 224 x 84  Man days  = 7 km

Remaining work = 16 - 7  = 9 km

Remaining  Days = 150 - 84  = 66 days

to finish the work 3 days earlier

Hence available days =  66 - 3 = 63 Days

Let say additional Men = M

Total Available man power = 224 + M

Work will be done = (224 + M ) * 63     Man Days

(224 + M ) * 63  Man days  = 9 km

 224 x 84  Man days  = 7 km

=> (224 + M ) * 63 / ( 224 * 84 )  = 9/ 7

=> (224 + M )  =   224 * 12/ ( 1 * 7)

=>  (224 + M )  = 32 x 12

=> 224 + M = 384

=> M = 160

160 additional Man Should be employed
