Given :-

  • Transportation charges = Rs.12000
  • The Selling price of coal = Rs. 435000
  • Profit on selling coal = 25%

To Find :-

  • The cost price of coal = ?

Solution :-

  • To calculate the cost price of coal at first we have to calculate total cost price then calculate the cost price of coal by applying formula. Let assume the price of coal be (x + transportation charges).

Formula Used :-

⟼ SP = (100 + P%)/100 × CP

  • P = 25% SP = 4,35,000

⟼ Total (CP) = x + 12000

⟼ 435000 = (100 + 25)/100 × (x + 12000)

⟼ 435000 = 125/100 × (x + 12000)

⟼ 435000 = 5/4 × (x + 12000)

⟼ 435000 = (5x + 60000)/4

⟼ 5x + 60000 = 1740000

⟼ 5x = 1740000 - 60000

⟼ 5x = 1680000

⟼ x = 336000

⟼ CP of coal = x + 12000

⟼ CP of coal = 336000 + 12000

⟼ CP of coal = 348000

Hence cost price of coal = Rs. 348000

Given :-

A contractor purchased 12 metric tonnes of coal and paid Rs.12000 as transportation charges. He sold the coal for Rs.4,35,000 at a profit of 25%

To Find :-

CP of coal

Solution :-

CP = SP × (100 + P/100)

CP = 435000 × (100 + 25/100)

CP = 435000 × 125/100

CP = 4350 × 125

CP = 348000

Now

It is the cost price when the transportation charges are included. But we've to find the cost price of coal only.

CP of coal = Total CP - Transportation charges

CP of coal = 348000 - 12000

CP of coal = 336000
