64 days---120 men--- 2/3 work completed
work remaining = 1/3.. Days remaining = 60
M1* D1/W1 = M2 * D2/W2
M1 = 120
D1 = 64
W1= 2/3
M2= 120-x
D2= 60
W2= 1/3
120*64/(2/3) = (120-x)*60/(1/3)
3*120*64/2 = 3*60*(120-x)/1
3*120*64/2*3*60 = 120 - x
64 = 120 - x
x = 120 - 64 = 56
Hence he can discharge 56 men so that the work gets completed in the given time.
Hope it helps.
