a contractor undertook to finish a road 18km long in 525 days and employed 45 men but after 300 days he found that only 27/4 kilometre of road was completed. How many more men must be employed to finish the work in time?? ​

Total no .of days required to finish an 18 km long road = 525 days

But 45 men worked for only 300 days

So, No. of days left = 525 – 300 = 225 days

Also, 45 men could build only 27/4 km of the road out of 18 km

So, Remaining km of road left to be built = 18 – 27/4 = 18 – 6.75 = 11.25 km

Let the extra no. of men required to be employed to finish the road be “x”.

Therefore, using the Man-Days formula, we can write the eq. as,

\frac{45 * 300}{6.75} = \frac{225* (45+x)}{ 11.25}

⇒ 2000 * 11.25 = 10125 + 225x

⇒ 22500 = 10125 + 225x

⇒ x = \frac{12375}{225}

x = 55 men

Thus, 55 more men must be employed to finish the work in time.
