A convex lens forms a real and inverted image of an object kept in front of it . If upper half of the lens is painted black , what will be the change in :

1) Position of the image .
2) Brightness of the image.

(a)and (b)- The image formed by a convex lens will not be affected if the upper half of the lens is painted black or covered with black paper because each part of the lens forms an image ,only the brightness and intensity of the image will be affected.

Answer

Painting any part of the lens does not change its focal length. Only the number of rays forming the image is reduced. So the intensity of final image is reduced. The image will not be shifted.
