Given that,

Focal length of the convex lens, f = +16 cm

The convex lens forms a virtual image of double size of the object, m = 2

To find,

Object distance of the object.

Solution,

Magnification of lens is given by :

m=\dfrac{v}{u}

v is image distance and u is object distance

2=\dfrac{v}{u}\\\\v=2u\ ......(1)

Using lens formula as :

\dfrac{1}{v}-\dfrac{1}{u}=\dfrac{1}{f}

\dfrac{1}{2u}-\dfrac{1}{u}=\dfrac{1}{16}\\\\u=-8\ cm

So, the object is placed at a distance of 8 cm.
