A convex rear view mirror is preferred over a plane mirror in a car.Why?

convex mirror gives virtual and erect image and it also give wide view area . while in plane mirror also form virtual image and erect but not a wider area to be viewd

because they have a wider field of view as they are curved outwards. These mirrors enable the drivers to see traffic behind him/ her to facilitate safe driving. convex mirror in a car is preferred because they always give erect ,though diminished image but in plane mirror it always form same size of image if the object is kept in any place
