Given info : A conveyer belt has a velocity of 4 m/s at an angle 40° above the horizontal.

To find : the vertical component of its velocity is ...

solution : the vertical component of velocity is given by, v_y = usinФ , where, u is initial velocity of the object and  Ф is the angle made by object with horizontal plane.

here, Ф = 40° and u = 4 m/s

so, v_y = 4sin40° = 4 × 0.643 = 2.572 m/s

therefore the vertical component of conveyer belt is 2.572 m/s.
