a copper calorimeter weighing 40g contains 120 g of water at 20°c when a copper sphere weighting 100g at 120°c is dropped on the calorimeter the temperature of the mixture rises to 27°c find the sp heat of copper and the thermal capacity of calorimeter assuming that the heat looses on the experiment amount to 62cal

Answer:
as heat rejected by sphere is not completely absorb by calorimeter and water which gives loss of 62 cal
heat rejected by sphere − heat hained by water = loss of heat in environment heat rejected by sphere = heat hained by water + loss of heat
100×s×(120−27) = 120×swater(7)+40s(7)+62 {s is specific heat of cu and swater = 1cal/g-C}
100×s×93=120×(7)+40×s×(7)+62
9300s =840+280s+62
9300s −280s=840+62
9020s=902
s=902/9020=0.1 cal/g−C
heat capacity of calorimeter =m×s =40×0.1=4cal/C
