Copper metal when exposed to air turns green in colour due to corrosion. Thus, when copper vessels are exposed to air in rainy season for sometime, the metalreacts with gases and moisture present in air to form a mixture of copper carbonate and copper hydroxide[(CuCO3).

During rainy season if water comes in contact with copper, then it will react correspondingly. Hence, a green coating is done along a layer by which it will not harm the copper vessel.
The formation of copper Carbonate results in the Green appearance of the vessel.
