ANODE: Silver

CATHODE: Copper

ELECTROLYTE: Aqueous solution of AgCN (Silver Cyanide)

Explanation:

  • We first take a 12 volt battery and connect a the silver metal to the positive terminal of the battery using clip. It functions as anode which attracts anions (negatively charged ions towards it).
  • Now attach the copper vessel to the negative terminal using a wire and a clip. It is now called cathode and it will attract positive ions towards it from the electrolyte.
  • After the connections are done we take silver cyanide solution as an electrolyte in a glass beaker and dip the two electrodes in it so that they do not touch each other.
  • Now wait for some time and the silver from the silver piece will get deposited over the copper vessel.

Answer:

For the electroplating of a copper vessel, the vessel is used as the cathode, sodium argentocyanide salt is used as the electrolyte, and a strip of metal silver is used as the anode. ... So, sodium argentocyanide Na[Ag(CN)₂] is chosen as the electrolyte, so that it dissociates and give Ag+ ions
