A copper wire of length 1X104

cm has a resistance of 5 Ω. Calculate the diameter of the

wire, given that the resistivity of copper is 1.7X10 - 8 Ωm.

Given, Diameter = 0.5mm, resistivity = 1.6×

10-8ohm - m , resistance= 10ohm

we know that R = P 1/a => 1 = ra/p

Where A is the are of the cross section

= 10×3.13×(0.0005/2)²/1.6×10-8 = 122.7m

Thus the length of the wire is 122.7m
