Step-by-step explanation:

Given

A cottage industry produces a certain number of potteries in a day .it was found that the cost of production of each article rs 5 more than twice  the number of potteries produced in a day .if the cost of production on that day was rs 168 ,find the number of potteries produced

  • Let the number of potteries produced be p
  • Cost of production of article on that particular day was (2p + 5)
  • According to question
  • P(2p + 5) = 168
  • 2p^2 + 5p – 168 = 0
  • 2p^2 - 16p + 21p – 168 = 0
  • 2p(p - 8) + 21(p - 8) = 0
  • (p – 8)(2p + 21) = 0
  • (p – 8) = 0
  • (2p + 21) = 0
  • So p = 8, 2p = - 21
  • So p = 8, p = - 21/2

Therefore the number of potteries produced will be 8
