Farmers are not just rural folks, but important contributors to the country's economy and self-reliance, as well as preservers of traditional foods. A nation without farmers thus, will be a nation facing food and employment issues as well as lack of self-reliance.

There are many factors that build a country's economy. Among them, a main factor is the rate of employment. Agriculture is an industry that requires a lot of manpower, and hence gives employment to many people. Farmers employee daily wagers, thus reducing unemployment.

Additionally, farmers grow food, both for domestic use as well as export to other nations. A country without farmers will mean no food production. The government will then have to import food from other nations. This will cause the government to depend on imports, and thus reduce the country's self-reliance.

Further, if there are no farmers, traditional crops will not be grown. Traditional foods will thus be lost over time and cuisines and culture will be diluted. Farmers are therefore preservers of cultural heritage. In fact many of our festivals are based on harvests.

The three points listed above indicate how important farmers are for a nation's well-being.
