A crane is used to lift loads vertically. s The output power of the crane to lift a car is P. The crane then lifts a lorry, which has 3.0 times the weight of the car, through 0.25 of the distance in 0.50 of the time. What is the output power of the crane now?
А. 3P/8
B. 3P/2
C. 8Р/2
D. 6P

Answer:

B (3P/2)

Explanation:

There is a change in potential energy. The formula for change in potential energy (Power) is mass x gravitational acceleration x height.

The power for the car is P.

As the lorry is 3 times heavier than the car, you would require 3 times the power hence 3P. As the amount of time lifted is half of the time taken to lift the car, you would need to divide 3P with 2 giving you (3P/2).

*Note: The gravitational acceleration and height lifted is the same for both the car and the lorry.
