A cricket ball of mass 200g is moving with velocity of 20 m/s and is being hit by bat, so that the ball is turned back with velocity of 30m/s. The force of the blow acts on the ball for 0.015 sec, then finds the average force exerted by the bat on the ball

GIVEN:-

  • Mass of ball (m)=200 g==>0.2 kg
  • Initial velocity(u)=20 m/s
  • Final velocity(v)=30 m/s
  • Contact time(t)=0.015 sec

TO FIND:-

Force exerted by bat on ball

EXPLANATION:-

Here the ball was moving in one direction  and the bat hit it in oppsoite direction so the final velocity will be -30 m/s

Now let's calculate the force using newtons's 2nd law

\sf\;F=m\times\frac{v-u}{t}\\\\F=0.2\times \frac{-30-20}{0.015}\\\\F=0.2 \times-2000\\\\F=-400\;N

(-ive sign means retarding force)
