To find.

1) = The change in momentum of the ball.

2) = The average force applied by the

player.

EXPLANATION.

Mass of cricket ball (m) = 200g = 0.2 kg

initial velocity = 48 m/s

Time (t) = 0.05 seconds

Final velocity ( v) = 0

initial momentum = mu

=> 0.2 X 48 = 9.6 kgm/s

Final momentum = mv

=> 0.2 X 0 = 0

change in momentum = mv - mu

=> 0 - 9.6 = -9.6 kgm / s

Average force =

=> change in momentum / time

=> - 9.6 / 0.05

=> -192 kgm / s

=> -192 N

Negative sign actually shows that the force

was applied opposite to the direction of the

motion of the ball.

Therefore,

1) = change in momentum = -9.6 kgm/s

2) = average force applied = -192 N
