a cricket player lowers his. hand while catching a fast moving ball explain why?

Because in this way he increases the time of catch to reduce the momentum of the ball to zero. As, force = change in momentum/time

it is because the force exerted by any object reduces as the distance travel is more. so for reducing the force exerted by ball a cricket player lowers his hand.
