There is a mistake in the question. Average increased by 3 and not 34.
Average before 17th innings = X
Average after 17th innings = X * 16 + 85 = 17 * (X+3)
17 X - 16 X = 34 X = average before 16th innings = 34
Average after 17th innings = 34+3 = 37
Average before 17th innings = X
Average after 17th innings = X * 16 + 85 = 17 * (X+3)
17 X - 16 X = 34 X = average before 16th innings = 34
Average after 17th innings = 34+3 = 37
