Because The Fast Moving Ball Gets Lots Of Force Up On It!
If The Fielder Moves His Hands Backwards The Force Gets Low
And He Can the Catch the Safe And Easily (Extract the Force)

A cricketer lower's his hands while taking a catch to decrease the rate of momentum, they increase the time by pulling their hand's backward with the ball while taking a catch.
