In order to determine the genotype of dominant trait in F2 generation, Mendel crossed the dominant trait with the recessive trait and termed such type of cross as test cross.

In this type of cross, instead of self-crossing the dominant trait obtained in the F2 generation is directly crossed with recessive parent trait.
