Cube Based Puzzles in Logical Reasoning for CAT Exam Preparation

Cubes is one of the most frequently asked puzzle topics in CAT. These puzzles require us to think visually about the puzzle, which makes it somewhat tougher than other type of puzzles. We will discuss the basic concepts of the cube and few things that we would be using is majority of the puzzles related to cubes. Cube related puzzles are asked in a number of ways unlike selection or arrangement puzzles, where the primary pattern remains the same. We will illustrate some of the types of puzzles and the approach one should use to solve such problems. We will focus our discussion on what would happen to a cube when we cut it with a certain number of cuts, shape of the cube after the cuts, how many sub-parts are formed etc.

Given:

10 cuts are made on cube by any one face parallel to it.

To find:

maximum number of identical pieces.

Solution:

1) Firstly let us consider the 10 cuts on the cube it will cut the cube in 11 identical parts.

2) Now it is given in the question that the cube is cut again  in any direction by making 11 cuts.

3) it is clear that the 11 cuts have 12 identical pieces.

4) Hence the total number of identical parts will be obtained by 11 × 12.

So the maximum number of identical pieces are 132.
