A cubical block of wood of 10 cm side floats on a side at the
interface between oil and water, with its lower surface
horizontal and 4 cm below the interface. What is the mass of
the block? The density of the oil is 0.6 g/cm'.

Answer:

760 g

Explanation:

Volume of the block = 10 × 10 × 10 = 1000 cm³

Volume of block in water = 10 × 10 × 4 = 400 cm³

= > Volume of the block in oil = 100 - 400 = 600 cm³

Now block weight :

Weight of block = wt. of water displaced + wt. if oil displaced.

= > m g = 400 × 1 × g + 600 × 0.6 × 6

= > 400 + 360 g

= > 760 g

Therefore , mass of  the block is 760 g .
