Volume of wood required to make the box

= Volume of the cube having edge 1 m – Volume of cuboid having dimensions (1 – 2 × 0.05) m × (1 – 2 × 0.05) m × (1 – 0.05)m

= (1 m)3 – (1 – 0.1) × (1 – 0.1) × (1 – 0.05) m3

= 1 m3 – 0.9 × 0.9 × 0.95 m3

= 1 m3 – 0.7695 m3

= 0.2305 m3

Rate of wood = Rs 9600/m3

∴ Cost of making the box

= Rate of wood × Volume of wood required to make the box

= Rs 9600/m3 × 0.2305 m3

= Rs 2212.8

Thus, the cost of making the box is Rs 2212.80.
