GiVen:

Side of cube =8cm

Specific Gravity = \rho_s =0.6

ForMula:

  • \rho_s =\dfrac{V_{submerged\:solid}}{V_{Total}}
  • Volume of cube = a³

SoluTion:

Let the Side not submerged in liquid be x

\rho_s =\dfrac{V_{submerged\:solid}}{V_{Total}}

\implies 0.6 =\dfrac{\cancel{8^2}(8-x)}{\cancel{8^3}}

\implies \dfrac{\cancel6}{\cancel{10}}=\dfrac{8-x}{a}

\implies\dfrac{3}{5} =\dfrac{8-x}{a}

By Cross Multiplying

\implies3a =5a-5x\\ \\ 5x=5a-3a \\ \\ x = \dfrac{2a}{5} \\ \\ \boxed{x = 3.2cm}
