A cuboidal shaped vessel with
dimensions 44cm x 35cm x 20cm is filled with water upto the height
of 17cm. A spherical solid metal
ball is placed into the vessel. Due to this 231cm3 of water overflows.
find the radius of the ball (π = 22/7 )

Answer:

The volume of the tank is 44 x 35 x 20 = 30,800 cm³. The volume of water in the tank is 44 x 35 x 17 = 26,180 cm³.

This leaves an unfilled volume of 4,620 cm³. When the ball is placed in the container, this volume is taken up by the sphere in addition to the displacement volume.

=> Volume of sphere is 4,851 cm³

Now, (4/3)πr³ = 4851

=> r³ = 1,158

i.e. radius is 10.5 cm
