If you happen to be in Sri Lanka towards the beginning of May (05 th and 06th of May) you will note that the whole island is decorated with colourful vesak lanterns, big and small colourfully decorated pandols, religious celebrations throughout the island in order to commemorate the birth, enlightenment and the passing away of Buddha that took place on the very same day.
Vesak celebration is considered as both religious and cultural event in Sri Lanka. Hence in addition to religious ceremonies there are various entertainment events throughout the country. So these celebrations continue for one week and during this period people enjoy a bit of night life.
