A current carrying straight conductor is placed in a horizontal plane such that the direction of electric current is from north to south. What is direction of magnetic field at a point below the conductor?

The current is in the north-south direction. Applying the right-hand thumb rule, we get that the direction of magnetic field at a point below the wire is from north to south. The direction of magnetic field at a point directly above the wire is from west-east.
