When a current is passed through the straight wire. the magnetic field that establishes around it has the line of force as circular and endless.
- Magnetic force lines are the concentric circles around the straight, extended cable. If stretched right thumb denotes current direction then the magnetic force lines are in curled finger position. It is considered the rule of thumb with the right hand.
- The Right-hand rule 2 (RHR-2) gives the direction of the magnetic field generated by a long straight wire. Pointing the thumb of the right hand in the direction of the current, and the fingers curl in the direction of the magnetic field loops it produces.
