The ratio of distance travelled on the third day and the first day is 3:4.

Explanation:

Let x be the distance traveled on first day.

As per given :

Distance traveled on the second day = 70 kilometer

ratio of distances covered by him on the first two day is 4 : 5.

i.e. \dfrac{x}{70}=\dfrac{4}{5}\Rightarrow\ x=\dfrac{4}{5}\times70=56

i.e. Distance traveled on the first day = 56 km

if he travels a distance of 42 km on the third day, then the ratio of distance travelled on the third day and the first day would be \dfrac{42}{56}=\dfrac{3}{4} =3:4.

Hence, the ratio of distance travelled on the third day and the first day is 3:4.
