Step-by-step explanation:

Given A cyclist pedals from his house to his college at a speed of 10 KMPH and back from the college to his house at 15 KMPH. Find the average speed.

  • Let the distance from house to college be m km
  • Let the time taken from house to college be t1
  • So we have time taken from house to college at a speed of 15 km/hr So m = 10 x t1-------1
  •      m = 15 x t2-------2
  • So from 1 and 2
  •  10 t1 = 15 t2
  •  t1 = 15 / 10 t2
  • So we get average speed = total distance / total time                                  = 10 t1 + 15 t2 / t1 + t2
  • = 10 x 15 / 10 t2 + 15 t2 / 15/10 t2 + t2
  •     = 30 t2 / 15 t2 + 10 t2 / 10
  •         = 300 t2 / 25 t2
  •           = 12 km / hr

Therefore the average speed is 12 km/hr
