A cyclist starts from the center O of a circular park of radius I km, reaches the edge P of the park, then cycles along the circumference and returns to the center along Q0 as shown in figure. If the round trip takes 10 minutes, then the average speed of cyclist is?

op = oq = 1km

join op

but op = oq ( radii of same circle)

therefore triangle oqp is an isosceles triangle

so angle oqp = angle opq = 45°

so angle qop = 90°

length of curved path qp = (angle qop/360) 2π r

= (1/4) 2π

= π /2km

total distance covered by cyclist = π/2 +1+1

= 5π/2

time taken 10 min

speed = distance / time

= 5π /2 /10

=π / 4 km per min
