A cyclist starts from the center O of a circular park of radius I km, reaches the edge P of the park, then cycles along the circumference and returns to the center along Q0 as shown in figure. If the round trip takes 10 minutes, then the average speed of cyclist is?

Answer:
op = oq = 1km
join op
but op = oq ( radii of same circle)
therefore triangle oqp is an isosceles triangle
so angle oqp = angle opq = 45°
so angle qop = 90°
length of curved path qp = (angle qop/360) 2π r
= (1/4) 2π
= π /2km
total distance covered by cyclist = π/2 +1+1
= 5π/2
time taken 10 min
speed = distance / time
= 5π /2 /10
=π / 4 km per min
