Given :

  • A Cyclist travels the first 30 km in 2.5 hrs.
  • The next 30 km in 3 hrs.

To find :

  • the average speed

Steps :

  • To find the Average Speed, we have to add both the distance.
  • Then, to add the time.
  • At last, dividing the Total Distance with the total time to find the average speed.

Solution :

⇒ Let's find the Total Distance and Total Time.

Total Distance = 30 km + 30 km

                        = 30 + 30 km

                        = 60 km

Total Time = 2.5 hours + 3 hours

                  = 2.5 + 3 hours

                  = 5.5 hours

⇒ Now, let's find the Average Speed.

Average Speed = Total Distance taken/Total Time taken

                          = 60/5.5

                          = 10.90 km/hr

Therefore, the Average Speed of the cyclist is 10.90 km/hr.
