The total mass of gas mixture is (a) 8.7 g.

Given - Ratio and mass of oxygen

Find - Total mass of gas mixture

Solution - Let moles of nitrogen and oxygen be 3x and x.

Moles of oxygen (x) = 2.5/32

Moles of oxygen (x) = 0.075

Moles of nitrogen = 3x

Moles of nitrogen = 3*0.075

Moles of nitrogen = 0.225

Mass of nitrogen = number of moles*molar mass

Mass of nitrogen = 0.225*28

Mass of nitrogen = 6.3 gram

Total mass = 2.4 + 6.3

Total mass = 8.7 gram

Hence, the total mass of gas mixture is (a) 8.7 g.
