A cylindrical container of radius 14 CM is partially filled with water. A solid cuboid of iron with dimensions 22cm*16cm*7cm is submerged in it. Find the rise in level of the water when the solid is completely submerged.

When the cuboid is immersed in water it displaces its own volume.

In this case we need to get he volume of the water displaced which is the volume of the cuboid.

Volume of the cuboid = Length × Width × height

Doing the substitution we have :

Volume = 22 × 16 × 7 = 2464 cubic centimeters.

The water rises by this volume.

We can get the height by which it rises from the formula for getting the volume of a cylinder.

Volume of a cylinder = pie × r^2 × h

2464 = 22/7 × 14 × 14 × h

2464 = 616h

2464/616 = h = 4

The water rises by a height of 4 cm.
