Qᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴ :-

A cylindrical pencil is sharpened to produce a perfect cone at one end with no over all lose of it's length. The diameter of the pencil is 1 cm and the length of the conical portion is 2 cm. Calculate the volume of the peels.

Gɪᴠᴇɴ :-

• Diameter of the pencil = 1 cm

• Radius of the pencil (r) = 0.5 cm

• Length of the conical portion (h) = 2 cm

Tᴏ Fɪɴᴅ :-

• Volume of the peels

Sᴏʟᴜᴛɪᴏɴ :-

Volume of peels = Volume of cylinder of length 2 cm and base radius 0.5 cm - volume of the cone formed by this cylinder

➳ πr²h - ⅓πr²h

➳ ⅔πr²h

➳ ⅔ × 355/113 × (0.5)² × 2 cm³

1.05 cm³

Volume of the peels is 1.05 cm³
