A cylindrical road roller made of metal is 2 metre long. It's inner diameter is 28cm and the thickness of metallic sheet rolled into the road roller is 4 cm. Find (a) Outer curved surface area and (b) Weight of Roller if 1 cm cube of metal weighs 15 gram (pi=13.4)

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To answer this question we need to get the outer radius.

The inner radius is :

28/2 = 14 cm

The outer diameter is thus :

14cm + 4cm = 18cm

a) The outer curved surface area is given by:

Area = 2πrl

Where :

l = 2m = 200 cm

r = 18cm

π = 3.14

Doing the substitution we have :

Area = 3.142 × 18 × 2 × 200 = 22608 cm²

b) Weight of the roller

To get this we need to et the volume of the metal sheet.

We get this by getting the inner volume and the outer volume then getting the difference.

The inner volume :

Volume = πr²h

Inner volume = 3.14 × 14² × 200 = 123088 cm³

Outer volume = 3.14 × 18² × 200 = 203472 cm³

The volume of the metal sheet is as follows :

203472 - 123088 = 80384 cm³

if :

1 cm³ = 15gram

80384 cm³ = ?

80384 × 15 = 1205760 g

We can convert this to Kilograms as follows :

1205760/1000 = 1205.76 Kg
