A cylindrical wire is stretched to increase its length by a 20%. calculate the percentage increase in resistance.

When a wire is stretched it’s volume remains constant.

In this case
Resistance ∝ (Length)²

ΔR/R = 2 × ΔL/L
= 2 × 20%
= 40%

∴ Resistance of wire will increase by 40%
