In a daring act, three men entered a house in Shimlapuri in broad daylight on Friday and looted Rs 6 lakh. They locked the members of the family, including an elderly couple, and their mother inside the room before fleeing with the cash.
The robbers entered the house by introducing themselves as friends of the house owner’s son.
The incident occurred around 2.35 pm on Street No. 10 of Shimlapuri. The victim, Jagannath (67), works at a garments showroom in Model Town. The police have recovered CCTV footage showing the suspects on a bike.
Additional DCP Surendra Lamba, along with a team from the Shimlapuri police, reached the spot and started investigation.
Prince, son of house owner Jagannath, said in the afternoon, his father Jagannath, mother Kamlesh and grandmother Amro Devi were present in the house.
“Three boys knocked the door. When my father opened the door, they said they were friends of mine and they wanted to hand over sweets, as one of their common friends, JD, had been blessed with a baby boy. My father asked them to come inside and have water. The moment my father let them in, they threatened my family with a gun,” Prince told The Tribune.
Armed men, who were speaking Punjabi, did not talk much, rather they straightaway entered the room of my grandmother and took away a bag containing Rs 6 lakh and mobile phones of the family.
Before fleeing, they locked the three members of the family in a room. Somehow, his father broke open the door and raised the alarm.
“When the robbers knocked the door and handed over a box of sweets to his father, they were not hiding their faces. But when they entered the house, they covered their faces,” he said.
